Invitation to the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Nishtha Health Care Centre

Dr. Barbara Nath-Wiser and the Nishtha Team are pleased to invite you to join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of Nishtha Health Care Centre.

His Excellency the Austrian Ambassador to India has agreed to grace the occasion with his presence and will present the Austrian Decoration of Honour in Gold for Social Service to Dr. Barbara Nath-Wiser.

The programme will take place at Nishtha Centre in Rakkar Village, Sidhbari, Himachal Pradesh on Thursday 2nd April from 11 am to 4 pm.

Week long Programme
March 29th – April 6th

Arrangements will be made for those who would like to join us from March 29th to April 6th to stay at Tara Centre, a well-appointed facility set in a peaceful garden with excellent home cooked food, just 5 minutes walk from Nishtha Centre. During this week a full programme of activities and events exploring the local area will be organized by Philippa Russell.

The cost of this programme will be €80 per day per person including accommodation, food and tours.

The Kangra Valley with its green and fertile villages is famous for its natural beauty and ancient civilisation. Dharamsala with a spectacular backdrop of the Dhauladhar mountain range is home to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan refugee community. We would like to offer you the opportunity to gain a unique and personal insight into the geographical and cultural variety of the area by providing a week long programme of daily outings and adventures.

• Walking in the mountains and hill villages along with the local shepherds

• Visiting ancient painted and carved Hindu temples full of spiritual tradition as well as more up to date ashrams such as Chinmaya Tapovan.

• Gaining an insight into the Tibetan refugee community, visiting their temples, monasteries, schools and cultural institutions including the Norbulingka Institute.

• Taking opportunities to develop your physical and mental well being though yoga, Buddhist philosophy, ayurvedic massage and contact with the natural environment.

• Exploring the local tea gardens and factories, and learning about the local crafts including weaving, bamboo basketry and pottery.

• For train lovers we can offer a journey on the Kangra Valley narrow-gauge railway amidst the spectacular hills and terraced fields of the area.

Extension Tours

Shankar Nath, Dr Barbara’s son is an experienced tour guide and travel facilitator. He is preparing two tours to take place before and after the main programme.

March 21st – 29th

This tour takes us to the famous monuments and highlights of Northern India from the Taj Mahal in Agra, on into Rajesthan via Fatehpur Sikri, staying in the fabled city of Jaipur, and to the Golden temple in Amritsar before joining the programme at Nishtha.

Post Tour

Himalaya Tour

April 3rd – 11th

This tour explores the mountain state of Himachal Pradesh, a state famous for its wonderful scenery and culture. We will travel from Dharamsala along the Dhauladhar mountain range to Mandi and then up through the gorge into the beautiful Kullu valley. We will return to Delhi via the famous British hill station of Shimla.
