From 4th March-7th March 2014 we were joined by 3 young artists Karen Peakin, Sophie Martin, Louise Smurthwaite who worked with our anganwari children and the children who come to the Community Centre for the after school programme.
“We very much enjoyed our week with Nishtha and found the variety of projects we had the opportunity to involve ourselves in to be really interesting and lots of fun! The staff were very welcoming, supportive and encouraging of our ideas and were often keen to get stuck into the creative tasks themselves as well which also encouraged the children to engage. We found the more construction based projects like making masks and picture frames to be most successful and produced the most focus from the children. Many of the kids struggled with creative drawing tasks and preferred to either copy directly from a picture or avoid drawing altogether and get someone else to do it for them! Perhaps getting them stuck in with some paints and bigger pieces of paper would help them to become a bit freer with their mark making. Alternatively constructing images from collaged materials seemed to be a good base to work from and could be expanded to use more 3D forms and modelling materials. Just be careful with the glue as they do seem to go a bit crazy with it!”
