Every year Nishtha organizes a winter cricket tournament in order to engage the young people of the area and provide the opportunity for them to interact with other young people from different areas and backgrounds. Preparation of the cricket pitch was started a month before the tournament began, work essential to the success of the tournament. Teams will come from all over the area to play on a good pitch. Clay has to be collected from a nearby source and laid in stages, our staff wetting and rolling it with great dedication until it forms a compact pitch. Every year we try to make best pitch and this year 24 teams enthusiastically participated and were very appreciative of prepared ground. All the players admired our cricket pitch!
The opening match was between the local Rakkar and Sidhbari cricket teams. Every match had to been played on Sunday or school holiday because the local Government school occupies the upper part of our village ground and matches played in school time would be a distraction and potential danger to the children. Because of this it took one and a half months to complete all the matches. The final knockout round was completed during the school holidays in the first week of January, followed by the quarter final and semifinal matches. The final match was played between the Dharamshala team vs. Mcleodgang IX. The Dharamshala team won the trophy by 5 wickets.
The matches were very popular with the people of the village who enjoy the action and perch on rocks to watch the play. On the final day Nishtha Director Dr. Barbara distributed the prizes to the winning and runner up teams.
